Blog Assignment 1

There is a great inability to regulate and create a more scholarly system of internet publications.  Many data figures are guesses, lies, mistakes, corporate fed data, politically motivated and many many other reasons.  In trying to find a source for this assignment itself turned out to be more of a challenge then I was expecting.  Trying to track down "Advantages/Disadvantages of the internet" on Google left something to be desired.  Many of the sources turned up to just be opinions of people rather then hard facts of recordable data.  Perhaps I can provide a source that is included in this text as a citation of something that should never be cited.
One advantage of the internet is its use in an educational surrounding.  According to a study by the Office of Educational Technology (http://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/os/technology/implications-online-learning.pdf), internet in the classroom provided 9 advantages to the students from reducing salary costs to increasing the rate of student learning.  Since children are the future it is safe to say it would benefit mankind as a whole to use such a tool.
A fault with the internet has a great stigma attached to it.  Since the internet caters to so many different interest it is very likely to be a battle ground for old and new ideas.  Things that are negative or undesirable get blamed on the internet based on something faceless like the internet to be blamed.
One other boon the internet provides is immediate access to information.  With a limitless number of unpredictable situations that come in life, it would nice to have one constant remain; the internet.  The ability to pull up data about anything while on the go provides mankind with a certain adaptability that does all people good.
One disadvantage of the internet is that it is a place where anyone with any idea can assemble.  From crime, to terror, to hate, to fear, and to anything else that bring to the table that is considered unpleasant.  The internet does not make these problems but it certainly amplifies it and makes the internet a bit of a hazard.
One advantage to the internet is that it connects family and friends.  When I was younger getting a hold of someone was hard and took two things: A phone, and the person I was trying to get hold of to actually be home.   I am so pleased that things are not this way (save that 'give me the good old days' garbage).   The internet connects so many people who might have otherwise not met.  The possiblities of social networking are limitless.
